#WeStandWithWDBJ To My Extended News Family

When you’re in the news business you tell the stories of people’s lives. You are given a rare opportunity to share their most important moments.

I’m here to tell you their faces are etched in our hearts and minds forever. Always.

The dad who took out a cloth and got down on his hands and knees as my crew and I stood with him at the cemetery… and carefully… ever so gently… wiped the dust off his children’s gravestones… It was the most loving and heartbreaking thing I have ever seen. I will never forget that moment and that he and his wife allowed us and trusted us to share their story.

I’m here to tell you their faces are etched in our hearts and minds forever. Always.

The firefighters who walked us through the ruins where two brothers were lost in a heroic rescue… the smell of smoke still burning our nostrils… where twisted remnants of broken windows had melted down like icicles. Two crosses still standing on the hill above the ruins… hallowed ground. I will never forget that moment and that they allowed us and trusted us to share their story.

I’m here to tell you their faces are etched in our hearts and minds forever. Always.

Stories of tragedy… but also triumph… of perseverance… of bravery… of love… the human story.

When you’re in the news business you are the keeper of history… It is a deep honor and something we don’t take lightly. We all have those stories which have made an imprint on our lives forever. This week two of our own family members joined that history. Alison Parker and Adam Ward… their families and their coworkers, standing tall with courage and compassion, allowing us and trusting to share their stories with the world. I hope we do them proud.

I’m here to tell you their faces are etched our hearts and minds forever. Always.

To my extended news family, you have my deepest respect and admiration…. and to the public that allows us and trusts us to share your stories… your most important moments… thank you.
