Menudo. Not the 80’s group. This is hard core authentic Mexican cuisine for people who can stomach it. Literally. The centerpiece of menudo is tripe… or animal stomach. The kids dared me to try it and I did. (so did my kids). If I was watching Bizarre Foods on TV, the host would say it has a gamey, grassy taste to it. I’ll tell you I tasted lime and spices and a chewy meat, the texture of which is hard to describe. It wasn’t horrible. I don’t know if I’d sit down for a huge, hearty bowl of it again but that’s OK. If it had been grandma’s recipe and I smelled her cooking it up for years in her kitchen it would be a totally different story. It is a 40 before 40… trying 40 new things before I turn 40.
