Dadmissions: The Little Blue Barn

In our house each year, Santa Claus gives the girls one gift that they’ve asked for. Mom and dad give the rest. This year our two girls each asked Santa for a little barn set with little animals and a little fence. They wrote out letters to Santa asking for those little barn sets. We couldn’t disappoint them. The wife and I went to several toy stores before we found the perfect little barns to fulfill their request to Santa. We knew Santa gifts come from his toy shop, so my wife painstakingly took each out of the packages and removed the labels, and added an assortment of little animals to go with their little blue barns. Mission accomplished! The kids woke up so incredibly surprised and happy that Santa had remembered the little blue barn sets they wanted. We hid all the evidence: it was a clean getaway. And then some time later, after they had played for hours with those little barns that Santa got them, little Alicia asked, “Mommy how come this says Made in China on the bottom?” That led to a whole new discussion about how Santa’s elves are stationed all around the world to help out… and it gave me another important reminder for next year.. make sure to fake a “Made in the North Pole” label for true Santa authenticity.
